Is This an Eating Disorder?
Question by Mally Hodge: Is this an eating disorder?
Alright. So I don”t want any crap, I want some honest help and answers please! Im currently 17 years old. Im about 4 “10. I have always thought of myself to be on the chubby side since about 5th grade. I weigh 85 or 90 pounds. I cant look in the morror without dogging on myself for how fat I am. I count every calorie that goes in my body. I hate the feeling I get after I eat food and yet I over eat all the time. I wake up every day and swear that Im not going to eat anything all day but then I eat a box ofdough nutss for breakfast. I stay up all night I work off every calorie I possibly can (or I used to but lately I just feel too crappy to do anything ) . Half of the time I just want to cry and often I do. I have tried telling my mom, Ive gone to her hyperventilating and cry uncontrollably but she doesnt understand and just tells me to stop over reacting. I get really depressed everytime I go to step on the scale. I cant go anywhere without feeling like everyone is staring down my fat. all I want so to feel normal and look normal and be happy with myself. I feel like I have a mixture of anorexia and over eating all in one. like I get so depressed about not liking my body that I just eat and eat. I have no idea what is going on with me. Im tired of feeling so crappy all the time. It controls my life and it just keeps getting worse. Could someone please tell me if I have a disorder and if I do what it is and how to fix it?

Well it sounds to me like you do. Just because you don’t starve yourself or force yourself to throw up doesn’t make it any less of an eating disorder. It sounds like this is controlling your life and you should get help.
“The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual – 4th Edition (DSM-IV) recognizes two distinct eating disorder types, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. If a person is struggling with eating disorder thoughts, feelings or behaviors, but does not have all the symptoms of anorexia or bulimia, that person may be diagnosed with eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS).”
Treatment for eating disorders usually involves therapy, and sometimes medication. I used to be anorexic and group therapy worked the best for me. You can call the confidential help line for the National Eating Disorder Association, 1-800-931-2237, and they can help you find treatment and support groups in your area.
Hope I helped..
