After removing himself from that negative environment, the depression did not go away. At age 15, he also began to experience manic tendencies. Jacob would cycle from one extreme to the other. He would have manic bouts when he was the life of the party, to being so depressed that he didn’t want anyone around. Jacob also began to develop serious levels of anxiety to the point where he had to see a physical therapist from extreme muscle tension. It was at this point that he decided to see a psychiatrist, who diagnosed him with depression and anxiety. She prescribed Jacob Zoloft, which put him into a state of mania. When he went back to see his psychiatrist, he was re diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She also prescribed Depakote for the manic symptoms, which threw him back into depression. She then prescribed Abilify, which gave Jacob akathisia, so it was immediately removed. Trileptal was then tried with no success. Zyprexa was then implemented with serious side effects of drowsiness. A number of other medications were tried, such as lithium, Seroquel and Lamictal. Jacob began to get frustrated at the guessing game of prescribing medications.
