Camp Rehab 2010 – This is a news story about Camp Rehab, a day camp for pediatric patients of the West Texas Rehabiliation Center in Abilene, Texas. I shot and edited this story on Thursday, June 10, 2010, the final day of the three-day camp. The camp was held at Lytle Bend Ranch in Potosi, just outside of Abilene. This story aired the same day on KTAB’s 6 and 10 newscasts. A shorter version aired on KRBC. I shot this story in 720/60p High Definition with my new JVC GY-HM700 ProHD shoulder-mounted camcorder. Editing was performed using the latest version of Avid Newscutter software. The broadcast-grade HM700 shoots in both 720p and 1080i/p HD resolutions, with variable frame rates including the normal “video look” of 60i/p, and the “film look” of 24p, which makes this camera perfectly suited for both newsgathering and digital cinematography. And instead of videotape or optical discs, the HM700, and it’s smaller cousin, the HM100, records all footage onto small (and cheap) SDHC memory cards at bit rates of up to 35 Mbps. By the end of the summer, the combined KTAB /KRBC/BigCountryHomepage.com news departments will field a dozen HM700 and HM100 HD camcorders to deliver local news and sports on a daily basis to our viewers. In this story I utilized the very cool “overcrank” feature of the HM700, which records the video at up to twice the normal framerate. This results in ultra-smooth slow motion when played back at normal speed…..
